Quiet Ambition
1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
It says to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life. The challenge is trying to create quiet and peace in a complex world.Jesus said to only take what you need for the journey. Another way of saying it is to be a minimalist.
The key to minimalism is guarding against clutter, what clutter are you dealing with in your life?
Our lives lack focus because we clutter our lives with a lot of things, and as we get new things in our lives we don't throw old things away. We need to declutter our lives!
Quiet Ambition
Luke 9:1-6 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He told them:“Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt. Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.” So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.
Jesus was saying, don't take extra for the journey, take only what you need for your journey because that journey will heal everyone around you through the good news. TO SIMPLIFY YOU NEED TO KNOW YOUR PURPOSE.
Quiet Ambition
So many of us try to jam as much into our schedule as possible, we want to maximize our time and we don't end up doing what God has created us to do. Why do we over schedule? God wants you to have a full life but not a maxed out life.
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. (1 John 4:16-18 NIV)
Take pause and see the good in life.
1) Make time to talk to the Holy Spirit.
2) Make non-negotiable times with your faith, family, and friends.
3) Know when your tank is empty.
4) Learn the word NO to good distractions.
5) Run your race.
